Coming Home Exhausted and Injured
The G-Men are coming home after a road trip from hell (3 and 7). They got swept by the Phillies, lost both catchers (Bailey to concussion and Murphy to a knee sprain], lost Solar to the DL, and generally looked like Michael Keaton shedding body parts in Beetlejuice. Even taking 2 out of 3 from the Rockies wasn’t a high point because the Giants have yet to win 3 games in a row this season.
The team from LA must be licking their chops. The only bright spots are that Conforto is hitting like he did when he was with the Mets (and unfortunately playing left field like he did then also). The question is whether they can start to turn it around on this home stand against the Reds (playing at the same level as the G-Men), that irritating team from LA (when Oracle will be full of obnoxious people wearing blue) and the Rockies, who are the only team below the Giants in the NL West.
I’m on the road this week and next and watching the action from afar. I’m hopeful that the brain trust will take a good long look at the players stashed in Sacramento (especially Luciano and Matos) and start to think seriously about an early season re-tooling. It’s only May and too early to panic but the boys will not rise in the standings unless they get their act together – this next homestand is not too soon.
The starting pitching on the road trip was spotty – two good innings and then a meltdown. Even Logan Webb was infected, and we don’t have Snell back yet. The bullpen has been nails (and Hjelle and Winn are keepers for sure) but inconsistency does not win ball games.
Bailey is due back next week, Lee should be healthy again, Estrada and Flores are playing great and the home-field fans should comfort the Bob Melvin traveling circus. And, for a bonus, it’s Irish Coffee Week right behind our seats.
On the board ready to be picked up are:
SAT 5/11 REDS [4:15 – 4] – Hello Kitty Day
SUN 5/12 REDS [1:05 – 4] – Mother’s Day Bag
FRI 5/17 Rockies [7:15 – 4]
SAT 5/18 Rockies [1:05 – 4]
SUN 5/19 Rockies [1:05 – 3, I’m going]
Let the torture continue!
Ciao, and GO GIANTS!
The Czar
We use mail chimp so give permission for the blog to arrive in your mailbox if you want to receive the blog and participate in the fun. Past blogs can be found at www.beveragelaw.com at the Czar’s blog archive.
THE PROTOCOL: The firm has four seats in Section 118 (Premium Lower Boxes), Rows 25 and 26. These are awesome seats directly below the press box and 25 rows behind home plate on the left side behind the screen. It is foul ball territory for left-handed batters so bring your glove – I have collected 22 foul balls myself over 23 years and am looking for more. If we don’t use all the tickets ourselves (or clients and friends of the firm don't claim them by calling me and reserving a game), then my next step is to give the tickets TO THE FIRST PERSON WHO GETS BACK TO ME PROVIDED THAT THEY ARE SERIOUS. If you ask for the tickets and don't use them, you will be taken off the list unless there is a seriously good reason. There will be a wait list.
When there are four seats available (we split up a lot of games) we will allocate the tickets two and two if the first people back just want two tickets. You can also go for four and might get them. I'm the Czar, my call.
Oh, and BTW, The Czar found the original Hinman & Carmichael brick from 2000 (after looking for it every year since 2000) and found H&C’s Gotham Club Founders Bat! If you are on the patio, or in the Club, look for the symbols of baseball!
